How to calculate Long Term Capital Gain Tax on Equity Shares and Mutual Fund from 1st April 2018

The Long Term Capital Gain Tax on Shares and Equity oriented Mutual Funds were exempt since 2004. The government has introduce Securities Transaction Tax from 2004, to simply the tax regime, and introduce section 10(38) to provide exemption to long term capital gains on transfer of shares listed on a recognised stock exchange (BSE & NSE) provided STT was paid on them. Short term capital gains on such a transfer would be taxed @ 15%. The Budget 2018 has proposed to tax Long Term Gains on Equity Shares and Mutual Funds without withdraw of securities transaction tax (STT), which was introduced as an alternative to LTCG tax.

Registration exemption for ‘Inter-state Supply of Handicrafts’ notified by CBEC

Government launches GST App to facilitate smooth transition to new tax regime

The Finance Ministry on Thursday launched a mobile app for Goods and Services Tax so as to provide updates to taxpayers on the new tax regime which is to be rolled out from July 1. From helping taxpayers in the migration to GST, providing toll free numbers and videos and reading material on GST to putting up draft laws and rules, the app called the CBEC GST app aims to help taxpayers and address their concerns about the new indirect tax regime. The GST mobile app launched by the ministry can be downloaded for free on Android platforms. The iOS version will be made available shortly, an official statement said

CBDT issues Certificates of appreciation to nearly 3.74 lakh tax payers for their contribution towards Nation building
