Terrorism is one of the global issues faced by the people around the world and Mumbai is not out of this problem. Due to past many such instances in Mumbai there is always a fear of terrorism or any such activity. It is feared that terrorists may seek refuge in Mumbai and in order to prevent such mishappening, Mumbai police have issued a circular ordering all landlords and homeowners to submit the details of their tenants to them.Mumbai police said they were acting on confidential reports stating that anti-social elements may be hiding in the city, The rder under section 144 of the Criminal Procedural Code 1973, read with the commissioner of Mumbai police brihanmumbai’s order and the Maharashtra Police Act is issued by Mumbai Police which needs to be complied by all Landlords has given property on rent in Mumbai

All the landlords can submit the details of the tenants to the local police stations either by personally visiting police station or through register post or courier services.

The circular also ordered to put up this law on a board as a notice in the police stations and all the housing societies must also be made aware of this order. Your housing society chairmen and Secretary should also ensure compliance so that society is following the law

A written report must be submitted by the tenants, landlords and homeowners to the senior inspector of their local police station. In case the tenant is a foreigner, the landlord must submit the name, nationality and passport details,such as the place and date of issue, validity, and visa details, including his/her reason for residing in Mumbai to the police.The objective is all the records will be stored by the police so that in case there are some mishappenings then the records can be used to solve the case and it acts as evidence with them.

People failing to comply will be arrested under section 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and may have to pay a fine of Rs.1000.

So with the objective of helping and cooperating Mumbai police, submit the details of your tenant to them as soon as possible which is definitely act as a better step for safe Mumbai. Do not forget to share with your network as many are not aware about rules.
