Government launches GST App to facilitate smooth transition to new tax regime

 

The Finance Ministry on Thursday launched a mobile app for Goods and Services Tax so as to provide updates to taxpayers on the new tax regime which is to be rolled out from July 1. From helping taxpayers in the migration to GST, providing toll free numbers and videos and reading material on GST to putting up draft laws and rules, the app called the CBEC GST app aims to help taxpayers and address their concerns about the new indirect tax regime.  The GST mobile app launched by the ministry can be downloaded for free on Android platforms. The iOS version will be made available shortly, an official statement said

The app, addresses queries on the process of migration to GST, the steps to be followed to apply for migration, the intimation of registration completion for existing service tax and excise assessees as well as the laws governing the transition. The Mobile Application enables taxpayers to be well informed of the latest updates on GST. Taxpayers can also provide feedback and contact CBEC’s 24×7 help desk ‘CBEC Mitra’ through a toll-free number or email, at the touch of a button

It also has an exhaustive set of frequently asked questions for businesses to address their concerns on registration, payment of tax, valuation, input tax credit, refunds, appeal forum and search and seizures.

The app also has the copies of the draft laws and rules being debated upon by the GST council. The government plans to implement GST from July 1

Further, it has a toll free helpline number and an email ID for taxpayers looking to seek clarifications.

Taxpayers can readily access a host of GST information such as:

  • Migration to GST-process and guidelines for migration
  • Draft Law-Model GST Law, IGST Law and GST Compensation Law
  • Draft Rules-Rules related to Registration, Returns, Payment, Refund and Invoice
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on GST
  • Various resources on GST such a videos, articles etc.
